It is probably obvious from some of the previous posts that I enjoy using open source software in most instances. It was thus with great pleasure that I have been using Open Camera, an open source Android app, in the last year. While I could not help much with the program itself, I thought about an appropriate logo that would be specific to the app.
Inkscape was tremendously useful in the various attempts to get a usable icon for the app:
In the end, the design had to be quite square and easy to distinguish on dark or light backgrounds. In its most recent iteration, the logo candidate looks like this:
I’ve been using this logo for some time now on my phone, by changing the app icon in Lightning Launcher (in fact, I shifted to the launcher from the stock one specifically for this customization capability).
WordPress does not like svg files, so the final version of the camera logo in the original editable svg format is on copy.com. The file “opencamera_logo_nopen.svg” is in the public domain, and to the extent possible under law, I waived all copyright and related or neighboring rights to “opencamera_logo_nopen.svg”. This work is published from: France.
It would be great if the design or modified versions of it could be useful for the Open Camera project.
EDIT: the current Open Camera logo is this one:
